Grapes ready to go

Writer's picture: Simon WilliamsSimon Williams

We have a few varieties that are going nuts in the spring sun. They are time to go...

ALBANY SURPRISE - Tasty black grape. Extremely hardy with very good disease resistance. Plant in full sun and manure only moderately. Grapes should be trained to a T shape and supported on a wire or similar structure. Prune back hard after fruiting, leaving two bud stubs at 30cm intervals along the arms of the T. Pick fruit only when fully ripe.

NIAGARA - This is an early white grape. It is very sweet with thin skin and low seed content. Plant in full sun and manure only moderately. Grapes should be trained to a T shape and supported on a wire or similar structure. Prune back hard after fruiting, leaving two-bud stubs at 30cm intervals along the arms of the T. Pick fruit only when fully ripe.
