This ginger grows well in our climate. Vigorous and healthy, likes semi-shade and dampness. Shoots and flower buds are sauted or eaten raw, lovely to have your own supply for cooking. Dies back in winter, but reappears in spring. Will spread rapidly if given too much moisture and shade. Keep it where you can keep an eye on it, and it is no problem.
