If you are after that really sweet, juicy pineapple, then you need one of these.  Arguably the best tasting pineapple, Queen pineapples ripen to a bright yellow and have an edible core.  They are more disease resistant and cold tolerant than most, however for these to thrive in NZ conditions they need to be kept warm and frost free.  There are sucessfull plantations Auckland North and if you can provide extra heat by planting next to a water tank, or brick wall that will help greatly.  Alternativly these go great in a containers, the above was grown in a 25litre planter bag inside a small domestic poly tunnel.  Once fruited you will have a top and pups which can be planted to expand your pineapple patch.
